If a daughter asks her mother with politeness, gentleness, and a smile, this is not considered disobedience (ʿuqūq); rather, it may be an act of dutifulness (birr) and kindness. The manner of asking affects whether it is an act of dutifulness or disobedience.

The daughter should not surrender to the mother's feelings, which might be incorrect and embellished by Satan to create estrangement. The mother's right is immense, and children must uphold it, regardless of the mother's favoritism towards one of them.

Parents are advised to be just among their children to avoid envy.
