What is the ruling of the Shari'ah on one who, out of ignorance, slanders the honor of scholars and preachers from Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah?

The scholars and preachers mentioned in the question are well-known for their goodness and for spreading the creed of the Sunnis and beneficial knowledge; therefore, one must show respect towards them. If anyone disagrees with them on an opinion, then the response to the statement must be made with politeness, while referring back to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger in case of disagreement.
