Which is better, a job at a Qatari telecommunications company with a fixed salary and no promotions, or a job at a British bank with an increasing salary and annual promotions, in a way that pleases God and avoids the unlawful?
Working in interest-based banks is generally not permissible in Islamic law, due to its involvement in cooperation in sin and aggression. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed the one who consumes interest, the one who pays it, the one who records it, and its two witnesses, and he said: "They are all equal."
As for working in a telecommunications company, there is no harm in it according to Islamic law. It is advisable to work in it or in anything else that is not forbidden, for a little permissible (earning) is better than a lot of forbidden (earning). Allah Almighty said: "Say: 'Not equal are the evil and the good, even if the abundance of evil amazes you.' So fear Allah, O you who possess understanding, that you may succeed."
