What is the ruling of Islamic law on a woman who wishes to remain a virgin?

The Shari'ah encourages marriage due to the tranquility of the soul it brings, the increase in offspring, and protection from sins. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, clarified this in his saying: "O young men, whoever among you can afford to marry, let him do so, for it helps him lower his gaze and guard his chastity. And whoever cannot afford it, let him fast, for it will be a shield for him." And Allah Almighty said: "And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought." Therefore, marriage to a compatible partner is advised, as it is better than celibacy, and it may become obligatory if one fears temptation. It is important to know that the default ruling for marriage is permissibility, and it can be obligatory, disliked (makruh), forbidden (haram), or recommended (mandub).
