What is the ruling on fumigating with donkey dung — may Allah, Glory be to Him, honor you?

It is not permissible to fumigate with donkey dung due to its impurity. The prohibition is further emphasized if done with deceit, sorcery, or with the intention of expelling devils. Dung is impure by consensus. We have favored the view that impurity becomes pure if it transforms into another substance. Accordingly, the smoke from donkey dung is pure due to its transformation. Nevertheless, it is not permissible to use dung for fumigation because it is forbidden to use impure substances when there are other options available.
