Is the Prophet's prayer and salutation upon himself during the tashahhud the same as our prayer and salutation upon him, or is it different?

The prescribed way in the Tashahhud is for the worshipper to greet the Prophet (peace be upon him) by saying: "Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings," as the Prophet (peace be upon him) taught his companions. Al-Bukhari and Muslim have narrated hadiths confirming this, among them the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud, which mentions the complete Tashahhud, and the hadith of Ibn Abbas, which mentions a similar wording.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to instruct his companions to recite this Tashahhud, as came in the hadith of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, when he alerted them to say: "All compliments, prayers and good things are due to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. For if you say it, it will reach every righteous servant of Allah in the heavens and on earth. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger."

It is narrated that the Prophet's Tashahhud was like ours, not as some have claimed that he used to say: "And I bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah"; for this statement has no basis. The Prophet (peace be upon him) legislated for his Ummah to send blessings upon him after greeting him in the Tashahhud.

There are slight differences in the wordings of the Tashahhud narrated from the companions. Some mention "and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah" as in the hadith of Ibn Abbas, while others mention "and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger" as narrated from most companions like Ibn Mas'ud, Umar, and others.
