What is the ruling on seeking the help of jinn to know a prospective fiancée's past?
It is not permissible to seek the help of jinn to investigate the past of a prospective spouse, as they are prone to lies and deception. If the prospective spouse appears outwardly righteous, it is not permissible to delve into their past, for "one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin," and a disobedient person must conceal their own faults. The guardian (wali) must mention any defects that necessitate the option of annulment, but should not disclose her past transgressions, for "whoever conceals a Muslim, Allah will conceal him on the Day of Resurrection."
