What is the Islamic ruling on astrology, given that past events (such as date of birth and personality traits) have been accurately predicted through it? Should we supplicate to God to change a future event if it is good, or are these matters already decreed? And what is the interpretation of the occasional fulfillment of unseen matters, which are general predictions based on a person's date of birth in astrology?

Astrology is forbidden by text and consensus (ijma'), and it is what is called inferential astronomy, in which the astrologer infers earthly events from celestial conditions. Some unseen matters may come to pass through jinn who eavesdrop, or through speculation and conjecture, or by inferring from stars and premises that soothsayers claim to know. It is obligatory not to believe these soothsayers or rely on them, even if they are sometimes truthful. As for supplicating to lift affliction or avert destiny, that is affirmed.
