Is it permissible for a woman to seek divorce from her husband who is mentally ill, having two different personalities, and who refuses treatment, claiming that the pen has been lifted from him due to his illness, especially since there are children between them?

Dealing with a mentally ill husband is difficult, and enduring it brings a great reward, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, the greatest reward comes with the greatest trial." If the wife is harmed, she has the right to seek divorce, but her staying with him is often better for the sake of the children. A mentally ill person is held accountable for his words and actions as long as he is sane, for sanity is the basis of accountability, and the pen is lifted from the madman until he recovers his sanity. This marriage may be a trial to elevate ranks and expiate sins, and not a punishment for a sin. Contracting a mental illness does not necessitate a choice unless it reaches the point of insanity, and there is no obligation to disclose it unless the condition is safe from it.
