What is the ruling on using black dye for hair and beard, and is it prohibited in the Hanafi school of thought?

The Maliki school views dyeing hair black as forbidden if it is for deception, recommended for jihad, and disliked for showing off youthfulness. The Shafi'i school, however, considers dyeing hair black absolutely forbidden except in jihad, citing the hadiths of Jabir and Ibn Abbas as evidence. The Shafi'i school has ruled that dyeing hair black is forbidden for both men and women, though some of them permit it for a woman with her husband's permission for adornment. The Permanent Committee has issued a prohibiting pure black dye for both men and women.
