Is it permissible for a woman to ask for divorce or leave the house without her husband's permission due to the gloom of the house and the frequent illnesses of the children, especially since the husband refuses to move to another house out of consideration for his mother?

We advise you to be patient and to pray frequently for Allah to remove what you are experiencing, while also communicating with your husband and seeking the cause of these feelings and illnesses, striving to treat them. Ruqyah Shariah (Islamic exorcism) is beneficial, and you may seek assistance from trustworthy ruqah (exorcists). If it is highly probable that the harm is due to the house, then it is your right upon your husband to provide another dwelling where you will not be harmed, based on the Prophet’s (PBUH) saying: "There is no harm nor reciprocal harming." If his mother needs care, this does not relieve him of the obligation to provide a dwelling for you. Rather, he can provide a dwelling close to her or persuade her to move in with you. Real harm permits a woman to leave the house without her husband's permission and to seek divorce, but one should deliberate carefully and consider the greater good, as often the harm resulting from divorce outweighs the benefit. We advise mutual understanding between spouses and seeking the help of wise individuals when needed.
