How can a person purify their heart from preoccupation with and attachment to people, and how can excessive love for some people of the same gender be removed, while they strive to draw closer to God? And what should they do if they propose marriage? Should they abandon friends and marriage?

Purifying the heart from preoccupation with people is achieved by filling the heart with beneficial thoughts concerning this world and the hereafter, such as contemplating the names and attributes of Allah, pondering death and what comes after it, and reflecting on Allah's blessings and signs. When the heart is filled with these thoughts, there will be no room left for harmful thoughts. This requires striving and seeking Allah's help. The solution is not in abandoning marriage or mixing with people, but rather in filling the heart with the love, fear, hope, and intimacy of Allah.
