Is it permissible to take a taxi to the mosque after the Imam has ascended the minbar, and is that considered forbidden (haram)?

The basic principle is that sales, rentals, and other contracts that cause one to be preoccupied from striving for Friday prayer are not permissible at the time of the second call to prayer. This is the view of the Malikis and Shafi'is, and the Hanbalis regarding buying and selling, but not other contracts. The sale and rental are annulled according to the Malikis and Hanbalis if they occur at this time, but they are not annulled according to the Shafi'is, and the Hanafis deem them reprehensible.

However, a rental that is essential for attending Friday prayer, such as renting a means of transport to reach it, becomes a necessary and permissible act. The jurists justified this by explaining that the prohibition of buying and selling is for the sake of prayer, and whatever serves as a means to reach prayer is permissible, such as purchasing water for ablution for one whose ablution is invalidated, buying a mount for one unable to walk, and paying for a car to reach the prayer.
