Is it permissible to distance oneself from an abusive sibling who slanders and plots, and would that be considered severing ties of kinship?

Great is the reward from Allah for patiently enduring harm from a brother, especially if there is no legitimate Shar'i justification for it. The questioner should frequently supplicate to Allah for his brother's rectification and not despair. If the harm continues, there is no sin in avoiding him, and this is not considered severing ties of kinship (qati'at ar-rahim). The kinship can be maintained through other forms of connection. Siblings should also play a role in reconciliation or in preventing harm.
