Is it permissible to sever ties of kinship with a brother who sought to ruin his brother's home, separated him from his wife, and took his inheritance with his mother's consent, under the pretext that he is unmarried and at the beginning of his life?
The fundamental principle in kinship is compassion, mercy, and striving for the well-being of others, not seeking to wrong them. If oppression issues from a brother, seek the reasons for it and address them with gentle advice, reminding him of Allah and kinship ties. If he does not return to reason, avoid mingling with him to the extent that prevents his harm, but do not sever your kinship ties; for severing kinship ties is forbidden and among the gravest sins. Allah has associated it with corruption in His saying: "So would you, perhaps, if you turned away, cause corruption in the land and sever your kinship ties? Those are the ones whom Allah has cursed, so He made them deaf and blinded their vision." And the saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "Indeed, Allah created creation, and when He finished from it, the womb stood up and said: 'This is the station of one who seeks refuge from severance.' He said: 'Yes, are you not pleased that I should connect with whoever connects with you, and sever from whoever severs from you?' She said: 'Yes, indeed.' He said: 'That is for you.'" A mother spoiling her child is not problematic, but if it goes beyond moderation, it may corrupt him.
