Are the wives of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, infallible regarding major sins?

The wives of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, are the best of women. Allah Almighty honored them with his companionship in this world and the hereafter. Among the signs of their virtue are their choice to be companions of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, the multiplication of the reward for their obedience, their dwelling in Paradise in his station, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and the recitation of the Quran in their homes. They are pure, and no immorality ever emanated from them. Despite this elevated status, Allah granted infallibility only to prophets and messengers.
