Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
Obeying one's mother is obligatory in what is good and permissible. Disobeying her is not allowed unless she commands disobedience to Allah the Almighty. Disobeying one's mother in what is good is considered an act of defiance (uquq). Allah the Almighty has enjoined upon children righteousness towards their parents and obedience to them in what is good and permissible. He has specifically distinguished the mother with additional care, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Your mother, then your mother, then your mother, then your father," when he was asked who among people was most deserving of his good companionship.
