Much has been said by scholars regarding the permissible duration of a husband's absence from his wife. What we favor in no. 100921 is that if a husband is absent from his wife for a period that causes her harm, she is permitted to request a divorce from him. However, it is preferable for her to be patient and discuss the matter with him. If he insists on his absence, she is then permitted to request a divorce.
