For "messenger" here is metaphorical, meaning a carrier of the ethical and scientific message, and the verb "is almost" (كَادَ) denotes approximation, not certainty. Furthermore, the sayings of some scholars have approached these meanings. Moreover, standing for the teacher is a matter of permissible scholarly disagreement, with the majority allowing it.
