Will performing Hajj on behalf of a deceased brother expiate his sins, as is the case for someone performing Hajj for himself?

Hajj expiates sins and returns its performer as pure as the day his mother gave birth to him. The majority of scholars believe that it expiates minor sins only, and that major sins require a special repentance. It is permissible to perform Hajj on behalf of a deceased person who did not fulfill the obligation of Hajj. The reward of Hajj goes to the one on whose behalf it was performed, and the performer of Hajj also receives a great reward. Performing Hajj on behalf of another is considered a charitable act for which the doer hopes for abundant reward. If the reward of Hajj goes to the deceased, it is hoped that it will be an expiation for his sins.
