What is the explanation for the existence of different beliefs among the mujtahideen regarding the interpretation of verses concerning God's attributes, such as the verse "God's hand is chained," knowing that they interpret the Qur'an according to its apparent meaning?

The fundamental principle in religious matters is reception and adherence, which leads to agreement and concord. Religious issues vary in their importance, and their proofs differ, leading to the existence of permissible disagreement. Issues on which the Companions and the Imams of the religion agreed do not allow for disagreement, as a mujtahid (independent jurist) with correct reception and methodologies will arrive at the same conclusion. Issues on which they differed are subject to contemplation and ijtihad (definition). A student of knowledge does not reach the stage of ijtihad unless he has a comprehensive understanding of the texts, traditions, and sayings of scholars, and knowledge of the points of agreement and disagreement. The People of Hadith (definition) agree in creed despite the vast distances and times separating them, because they took their religion from the predecessors reaching back to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, whereas the People of Desires are divergent and disunited.
