Is my work permissible in a for-profit company that builds mosques, digs wells, and distributes food parcels to the poor, and deducts a percentage from donations to cover employee salaries and operating expenses? And are we considered among those "employed thereon" [al-ʿāmilīna ʿalayhā]?

1. Workers on Zakat: These are individuals tasked by the ruler with collecting, calculating, and distributing zakat, not merely anyone working in a charity or a for-profit company.

2. Working for a Wage and Sincerity of Intention: It is permissible to receive a wage for works of extensive benefit, such as calling for the construction of mosques and the digging of wells. This does not contradict the attainment of reward from Allah if the intention is sincere.

3. Combining Earning Money and Sincerity in Work: There is no contradiction between the intention to earn money and the sincerity of working for Allah. You can help the poor, build mosques, and benefit people with wells while receiving a salary.

4. Source of the Wage: What you receive is a wage for your work, not charity. If the company charges fees from donors, then salaries should be paid from these fees, not from donations specifically allocated for projects. As for charitable organizations that have not stipulated a fee, it is permissible for them to pay salaries to their employees from donation funds, equivalent to a fair wage, when voluntary work is not feasible.

5. Permissibility: Your aforementioned work is permissible, and it is advisable to seek reward from Allah and intend to benefit Muslims.
