What is the ruling on masturbation if it is driven by extreme necessity or unconsciousness?

Masturbation is forbidden according to the majority of scholars. As for someone who performs it while unconscious, they are not held accountable, because sanity is a condition for accountability. However, for someone who performs it under severe duress, it is not permissible for them, but committing it is less grave than falling into major indecency (zina). They should hasten to marry if they are able, or fast.
