Should a woman raise her voice when saying the Iqamah and during audible prayers if she is praying alone or with other women, or should she keep her voice low? And should she say the Iqamah for her husband if she prays with him, or should he say it and lead her in prayer?

Scholars have differed concerning a woman's adhan (call to prayer) and iqamah (call to commence prayer) if she prays with other women. One group holds that they are not legislated, because the adhan is for announcing the prayer, and a woman is prohibited from raising her voice. Another group holds that it is permissible, as narrated from Ahmad, Al-Shafi'i, and Ishaq, and they based their argument on the actions of Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her. Based on this, there is no harm for a woman to make the adhan and iqamah silently, whether she prays alone or with other women. However, if she prays with her husband, then the iqamah is his responsibility.
