What is the way to repent and get rid of sins, and to return to God's embrace, with votive fasts accumulated for more than two years?

Abstaining from sin is an obligation by divine law, and a pledge and oath confirm the abandonment [of sin]. Repentance erases sins, and the one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin. "And indeed, I am the All-Forgiving to him who repents, believes, and does righteous deeds, and then is guided." "Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, He is the All-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.'" A Muslim must offer sincere repentance and resolve not to return to sin, so that Allah may love him and replace his evil deeds with good ones. "Indeed, Allah loves those who repent." "Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work, for therefrom Allah will change their evil deeds to good ones. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful." The aforementioned pledge and oath are considered an oath of obstinacy (yameen al-lajaj), and whoever violates it has the choice between fulfilling it or offering an expiation for an oath. So, if you sin, you must fast for a week or offer an expiation for an oath, according to the number of times the act is repeated.
