What is the ruling on working in mixed-gender secondary schools due to financial need, coupled with the fear of being transferred to an all-girls institute in the current job at Al-Azhar?
Mixing in schools and universities is a reprehensible act that leads to many calamities and corruption. Therefore, segregation between sexes in different educational stages is obligatory, and men should teach boys while women teach girls. As for your work in a mixed school, if you are safe from temptation and adhere to the guidelines, such as lowering your gaze and avoiding (private seclusion with a person of the opposite sex), then it is permissible; otherwise, it is not. It is preferable to avoid working in mixed schools. The fear of being transferred to a girls' institute is not a justification for this, as the safety of one's religion and avoiding temptations are great benefits. "And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out" and ease.
