Is it permissible to work in a mixed-gender school where the children's age does not exceed 12 years?

Mixing between boys and girls in schools, even among young children, has its harms and negative consequences. The Permanent Committee for Issuing Fatwas has prohibited it and deemed it impermissible due to the fitnah (temptation) it incites, the exposure of awrat (private parts), and because it is a means to corruption. Sheikh Ibn Baz, may Allah have mercy on him, emphasized that mixing is a means to much evil and great corruption, citing the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Instruct your children to pray when they are seven years old, and beat them for it when they are ten years old, and separate them in their beds." He clarified that separating them in their beds is to prevent immorality, and that their gathering in primary stages is a means to it. Therefore, one should not work in these mixed schools due to the fitnah that may result, unless the teacher aims for reform and guidance and invites the girls to wear hijab and maintain chastity, while adhering to Islamic manners, in which case it is considered a good deed.
