Is it permissible to take some soil or pebbles from Mecca to keep in one's home country?

Scholars have differed regarding the ruling on taking the dust and stones of the Haram out to the Hill (non-sacred area). Some Shafi'is have deemed it unlawful (haram), while most of them and the Hanbalis have deemed it disliked (makruh), which is the more preponderant view. Abu Hanifa and some scholars, however, permitted it. It has been reported from Ibn Umar and Ibn Abbas that they considered it disliked. There was a difference of opinion as to whether it is disliked or unlawful. The view of it being disliked is more preponderant.
