What is the ruling on dealing with friends who demanded repayment of their debt in a harsh manner after they had forgiven the debtor for ten years of poverty? And is the debtor sinful for speaking harshly to them? And what is his fate if he dies before repayment while he cannot afford his daily sustenance?

Whoever borrows with the intention of repaying, then becomes unable to do so without negligence, bears no accountability in the Hereafter, and Allah will take care of it on their behalf. An insolvent debtor must not be punished or transgressed against; rather, they must be given time, and it is commendable to give charity to them by forgiving their debt. The creditor has the right to demand their due without transgressing the debtor's حرمة (sanctity/honor), and it is commendable for the debtor to endure the creditor's harshness, as the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Indeed, the one who has a right has a say." The insolvent person is not to be imprisoned or demanded from until their situation eases.
