What is the ruling on taking a Mushaf (copy of the Qur'an) from a mosque, and what is the expiation for that?

If someone mistakenly takes an endowed Quran from a mosque, they must return it to its place, seek forgiveness, and repent. If the Quran is damaged or lost, they must replace it with a similar one or pay its value so that a substitute Quran can be purchased.
