What is the ruling on eating snails, knowing that they are cooked alive, and were they eaten during the time of the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace?

"Snails" are of two types: land and sea. Land snails are classified as insects, and the majority of scholars have deemed them forbidden because they cannot be slaughtered according to Islamic law (dhakah). However, the Malikis have permitted them, with their slaughter being through boiling, grilling, or piercing them with thorns and needles until they die. As for sea snails, they are permissible by consensus due to the general permissibility of sea hunting.
