What is the ruling on eating frogs and turtles in Islam?

Eating sea turtles is permissible, due to the generality of Allah's saying: (Lawful to you is game from the sea), and due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying about the sea: "Its water is pure, and its dead are lawful." However, it is more cautious to slaughter it to avoid dispute. As for land turtles, it is not permissible to eat them except after slaughtering them.
