What is the ruling on eating turtles and hyenas?

The correct view is that it is permissible to eat both sea and land turtles, due to the generality of Allah's saying: "Eat of what is in the earth lawful and good" (Quran 2:168), and His saying: "And He has explained to you in detail what He has forbidden you" (Quran 6:119). The prohibition of the turtle has not been detailed. As for the hyena, its consumption is permissible. The evidence for its permissibility is what was narrated by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, and others from Jabir ibn Abdullah, that he was was asked about theena and commanded its consumption.
