Expiation is not obligatory for someone who breaks an oath while not yet an adult. This is the view of the majority of scholars, as the pen has been lifted from the child. Some scholars are of the opinion that the oath of a discerning child is valid, but expiation is not binding upon him.

However, if the oath was sworn concerning a single matter, then only one expiation is required. But if it pertained to several matters, then an expiation is required for each one of them. If it was a single oath concerning several things, then only one expiation is required upon doing any one of them.
