Should one specify the sin when seeking forgiveness, or can one seek forgiveness generally without specification?

It is prescribed for a servant to seek general forgiveness from Allah for their sins. This is evidenced by the Prophet's abundant seeking of forgiveness and repentance without specifying a particular sin, as he would seek forgiveness more than seventy times a day. He would also supplicate with comprehensive prayers, asking for forgiveness from all sins, ignorance, extravagance, and what is known and what is hidden. Among these supplications are: "O Allah, forgive me my sin, my ignorance, and my extravagance in my affairs..." and "O Allah, forgive me all my sins, the minor and the major, the first and the last, the apparent and the hidden." The command to seek forgiveness has been mentioned in the Qur'an and Sunnah in all circumstances: after committing transgressions, after acts of obedience, and even after performing acts of worship and obligatory duties like prayer and Hajj. Indeed, the Prophet (peace be upon him) would seek forgiveness three times after prayer. Seeking forgiveness after acts of worship involves humbling oneself and glorifying Allah the Almighty.
