Are the Abdaal mentioned in the noble Hadith the ones referred to by the Sufis, and who are those about whom it is said: "There will always be forty men from my Ummah whose hearts are like the heart of Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Allah defends the people of the earth through them. They are called the Abdaal. They did not attain their rank through prayer, nor fasting, nor charity, but rather they attained it through generosity and sincere advice to the Muslims"?
The aforementioned hadith is very weak. It was narrated by Al-Tabarani, and Al-Haythami mentioned that some of its narrators were unknown. Al-Albani affirmed its extreme weakness. Furthermore, Ibn Al-Qayyim stated that all hadiths about the Abdal are baseless. Therefore, this hadith cannot be used as an argument by those who speak about the Abdal.
