Will a girl be held accountable for rejecting suitors if there are convincing reasons for doing so? Is her reserved approach to dealing with a young man who wishes to propose to her logical and correct, out of fear of an uncertain relationship? And is destiny alone what governs such matters?

Rejecting a suitor whose religiosity and character are unsatisfactory is a Shar'i (religiously mandated) requirement, and there is no sin in it. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, advised accepting a person of good religion and character. As for getting closer to the young man, there is no sin in an age difference. A cautious and firm approach with men repels those with bad intentions and attracts those with good ones, for whoever intends what is lawful, their path is known. Marriage, like other actions, is predetermined and written, and this does not contradict taking the permissible means.
