Allah Almighty forbade excessive and intrusive questioning about matters that do not lead to action, and which might displease the questioner if their reality were revealed to him, as in His saying: (O you who have believed, do not ask about things which, if they are shown to you, will trouble you). It is stated in Tafsir Ibn Kathir that this is an admonition from Allah to the believers to abandon asking about things that are of no benefit. The reason for the revelation of the verse goes back to one of the Companions, Abdullah ibn Hudhafah, who asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, about his father. He answered him that his father was Hudhafah, and his mother then criticized him for this question, fearing her disgrace. Therefore, it is advised to turn away from asking about such matters, for the paternity of a child to his father is established by his birth on his bed, based on the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: (The child is for the bed).
