Is it obligatory to bring to mind the condemnation of evil every time it is seen, and what does "condemning evil with the heart" mean?
Previously, the meaning of "denial by the heart" was explained, and it encompasses two matters: disliking the reprehensible act in the heart and leaving its place. Mere knowledge of its being unlawful is not sufficient. And he who does not know that something is reprehensible is in a less severe situation than he who knows it yet does not condemn it. The Children of Israel were cursed for not refraining from reprehensible acts, and for their rabbis and scholars not forbidding them. And he who does not condemn the reprehensible act with his heart, this indicates the weakness of his faith, meaning that the perfection of his faith departs, not its essence. The regulations of enjoining good and forbidding evil must be observed.
