A woman is not permitted to travel without a mahram. This ruling is established from the Prophet (peace be upon him) and agreed upon by scholars, except in exceptional cases such as travel for Hajj and Umrah (with differing opinions), or leaving the land of shirk, or escaping captivity. Thus, any act considered travel is forbidden for a woman without her husband or a mahram. A mahram is her husband or someone whom she is permanently forbidden to marry. Whoever claims that a company can be considered a mahram has erred. This kind of travel, which involves ikhtilat (unrestricted mixing) and tabarruj (immodest display), is impermissible, and any wages earned from it are forbidden.
