What is the ruling on my marriage to a girl who has recently converted to Islam, given my family's disapproval?

Parents' objection to their son's marriage can take several forms. The son must obey them if the reasons are legitimate, whether jurisprudential or personal, and do not involve fitna (temptation/strife). However, if the objection is to prevent the son from marrying any girl he chooses, or because his heart is attached to a girl and he fears fitna by leaving her, or to force him to marry a girl he does not desire, then obedience is not obligatory, because choosing a wife is the son's right. If the girl converts to Islam and her Islam is good, and the son's heart is attached to her, and he fears fitna if he leaves her, then he may marry her even if his family does not agree. Efforts must be made to convince the parents. Marriage without a wali (guardian) is not permissible. If there is no Muslim wali from her family, a Sharia judge, a mufti, or an imam of an Islamic center shall act as her guardian.
