Q: What should one do upon passing a verse of prostration while reciting the Quran, whether in a car or walking?

The majority of scholars hold that the prostration of recitation (Sujud Al-Tilawah) is supererogatory (mustahabb) and requires the same conditions as a voluntary prayer (nafilah) in terms of purity (tahara), covering of the 'awrah (satr), and facing the qiblah (istiqbal al-qiblah). It is recommended for the listener to prostrate if the reciter reaches a verse of prostration and the listener intends to learn, such as if they are in a car or walking and find a place to prostrate. However, if they do not intend to learn, they are not required to prostrate, though it is permissible if they do.
