Is it permissible to name someone "Abd Al-Darr" (servant of the Harmful) or "Abd Al-Mumit" (servant of the Annihilator), based on the Prophet's (PBUH) saying: "The best names are those that signify servitude to Allah or praise of Allah," and what is the reality of Allah's Most Beautiful Names such as "Al-Darr" (the Harmful) and "Al-Mumit" (the Annihilator)?

It is not permissible to be named "Abd al-Dharr" (servant of the the Harmful) or "Abd al-Mumit" (servant of the Giver of Death), because these two names do not convey perfection unless they are coupled with another name, such as "al-Muhyi al-Mumit" (the Giver of Life, the Giver of Death) and "al-Nafi' al-Dharr" (the Benefactor, the Harmful). Perfection lies in their combination. Scholars such as Al ash-Sheikh, Al-Sa'di, Abu Zayd, Al-Zajjaj, Al-Suyuti, and Al-Uthaymeen have clarified that these names are not used in isolation, and that "al-Dharr" and "al-Mumit" are among the names by which one does not worship Allah alone.
