What is the meaning of Allah's Name, "Ad-Dharr" (The Distressor), and is this Name befitting of Allah, may He be glorified and exalted?
Al-Darr (The One Who Harms) is one of Allah's Most Beautiful Names, meaning that Allah harms whomever He wills among His creation. He is the Creator of good and evil, benefit and harm. Evidence for this includes Allah Almighty's saying: "And if Allah should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him; and if He intends for you good, then He is over all things competent" [Al-An'am:17], and His saying: "Say, 'Have you considered that which you invoke besides Allah, if Allah intended me harm, would they be removers of His harm; or if He intended me mercy, would they be withholders of His mercy?'" [Az-Zumar:38].
