Firstly: "Al-Darr" (The Harmer) has not been authentically established as one of Allah's Beautiful Names, and the Hadith in which it was mentioned is weak. The Names and Attributes of Allah are tawqifiyyah, meaning they can only be established by authentic proof from the Qur'an and Sunnah. Nevertheless, it is permissible to use it as a descriptive attribute for Allah, because the scope of description is wider than that of Names and Attributes. Therefore, one should not say "Abd al-Darr" (servant of Al-Darr) because it has not been established as a Name of Allah.

Secondly: The meaning of "Al-Darr" is the One who ordains harm and causes it to reach whomever He wills among His creation. Both good and evil originate from Him, exalted be He, in accordance with His saying: (And We test you with evil and with good as a trial; and to Us you will be returned) and His saying: (And if Allah should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him).

Thirdly: When mentioning the name "Al-Darr," it must be coupled with the name "Al-Nafi'" (The Benefactor) to indicate perfection, such as "Al-Darr, Al-Nafi'" (The Harmer, The Benefactor) or "Al-Mani', Al-Mu'ti" (The Withholder, The Giver). This is because perfection lies in coupling each Name with its opposite.

Fourthly: A Muslim must understand that Allah is unique in His Lordship, and He is the Giver, the Withholder, the Harmer, and the Benefactor. Whoever testifies that anyone else possesses such power has associated partners with Him in His Lordship. Whoever comprehends this will be relieved from the servitude of creation, and his faith will be strengthened and his heart expanded.
