What is the ruling on one who vomited involuntarily during a Ramadan day, then drank coffee, thinking her fast was broken?
The woman must make up the day on which she vomited and drank coffee, because she erred by drinking coffee after vomiting, whether the vomiting was involuntary or intentional. If she vomited involuntarily, her fast is valid, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever is overcome by vomit does not have to make it up, but whoever induces vomiting must make it up." If she induced vomiting intentionally, she must refrain from eating and drinking for the rest of the day. If she was ignorant of the ruling, it is hoped that there is no sin upon her if she was unable to ask people of knowledge; otherwise, sin is feared for her. She must make up the day, and there is no expiation required of her according to the majority of scholars.
