Who was the Companion who killed his father in the Battle of Uhud, and what is his story?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The Companion who killed his father was Abu Ubaidah 'Amir ibn al-Jarrah, may Allah be pleased with him. This occurred on the Day of Badr, when his father was confronting him, persisting greatly. So, Abu Ubaidah aimed for him and killed him. The noble verse was revealed concerning him: "You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day loving those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred. Those - He has inscribed within their hearts faith and supported them with a spirit from Him. And He will admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. Those are the party of Allah. Unquestionably, the party of Allah - they are the successful."
