Is compulsory travel that harms one's interests obligatory, despite the mother's objection and the fear of potential harm?

The basic principle regarding travel for earning a livelihood or for communal obligations (fard al-kifaya) is that the parents' permission is a prerequisite for its permissibility, as indicated by the noble Hadith: "For in them [the parents], strive [for jihad]."

One must balance between benefits and harms. If the harm resulting from travel is greater than that of not traveling, then refraining from travel is more preferable, based on the principle of enduring a minor harm to avoid a major one.

It is advisable to perform Istikhara (prayer for guidance), consult experts, and try to convince the mother of what is deemed correct.
