What do you say about someone who committed a great sin in the past that has made him unable to hold his head up, and he faces slander and ostracism from people, to the point that he has become as if slaughtered, unable to move? And does the verse, "And if you say, 'Indeed, you will be resurrected after death,' those who disbelieve will surely say, 'This is nothing but obvious magic,'" apply to him in this world? And what is the way to repel injustice from him?

The sinner must repent with sincere repentance that fulfills its conditions: remorse for the sin, cessation of it, firm resolve not to return to it, and restoration of rights to their owners if the sin pertained to a human right. If his repentance is sincere, Allah will accept it and erase his sin. If his repentance is sincere, then what people say about him will not harm him. He must be patient with harm and advise those who harm him that reproaching him for a sin from which he has repented is a sin. If they do not desist and he is unable to ward off their harm, then let him be patient, for the outcome is for the righteous. Let him seek Allah's help and supplicate Him frequently.
