What should a young man do with the money and gifts he received from a girl he was in a relationship with before he became committed [to his religion], knowing that she became committed [to her religion] after him?

Islam has forbidden any love relationship between a man and a woman who are not married to each other, except within the framework of marriage. The money taken from the girl because of the forbidden relationship is ill-gotten wealth, and it is not permissible to benefit from it, based on the Almighty's saying: "O you who have believed, do not consume one another's wealth unjustly." It must be disposed of by spending it on the poor, the needy, charitable causes, and public Muslim interests. However, if the gift was not given because of the forbidden relationship, then it is permissible to possess and dispose of it.
